Well, the long awaited doctor's appointment finally arrived today. I was so anxious to hear our baby's heartbeat that I gave myself a panic attack! The nurse made me hook up to a blood pressure machine for the first 15 minutes of my appointment to make sure my blood pressure went down (It was 149/82, when they first took it!)...oops. Luckily, I explained my nerves and she let us listen to the heartbeat before hooking me up to the machine. And there it was, clear as day, the beautiful thumping of our baby's heart! The nurse reported it was strong and healthy at 172 beats/minute. Apparently, little hearts work overtime! My dear husband, who wants a boy, clarified with the doctor that there is no truth to the old wive's tale of faster heartbeats indicating a girl. True or not, I feel like it's a girl!
So, one more hurdle crossed. I will officially be out of my first trimester at the end of next week when I hit 14 weeks! But 12 weeks and hearing a healthy heart is enough for me : )
P.S. My blood pressure did go back to normal, so no worries!
